About Me

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts from Loyola Marymount University. After graduating, I went on to work in real estate property management for several years, and I am now the founder & director of Open Mind Art Space. In addition to being an artist and curator, I also teach watercolor painting as part of the gallery’s Open Mind Workshops.

Inspiration & Process

My work explores human emotions and their complexities. I often draw inspiration from my personal life experiences and relationships with others. I create art as a way to confront my own emotional vulnerabilities and deal with life’s challenges, so my work often deals with concepts of impermanence and self empowerment.

The materials I use and the colors and textures in my work are each meant to symbolize different feelings or states of mind.  String is used to represent anxiety or tension and hand-bent metal wire to represent isolation or control, and cool colors are utilized to evoke a sense of calm, vivid colors for intensity, or a variety of colors at once to represent “mixed emotions”.

I aim to make work that inspires people to reflect on their own internal dialogues and how they view themselves. In an increasingly disconnected world, I believe it is important to encourage people to support and uplift each other, so by making work that offers viewers an opportunity for self reflection, I also invite people to think about the impact they have on others.

Beyond human-to-human connections, I am also concerned about the relationship between humans and nature. In my daily life, I try to reduce my environmental footprint. When making art, I make a conscious effort to use recycled materials whenever possible, or use the least amount of materials I can, to reduce consumption and waste while still allowing myself to express my ideas effectively. Using less material ultimately results in an overall minimalist aesthetic in my work, and the incorporation of recycled materials serves as a way to promote environmental awareness through my art.
